This is such an incredibly beautiful project you’ve undertaken. Women taking care of others is one of the oldest known pieces of our humanity. Looking forward to supporting your completed project, Teri. 💞
Thank you for sharing these stories. They inspire. They also represent the thousands of untold stories that may never be known, which makes your work and your voice that much more important in my opinion. I appreciate reading the stories of these powerful women and I love your writing. Your words have become a part of my daily routine. Thank you for spreading joy and power and light. You are making a difference.
@AJ Norenberg - thank you for this. Your message hit at a time when I was feeling a bit tired about trying to find good news. sometimes the hope-hunting to find good news gets bogged down by doom-scrolling. This note came at one of those times and pulled me right out of the muck. I needed it today.
TeriLeigh, this is amazing writing. Perhaps there is some humanity buried deeply in at least some of the bad actors hired to do an awful job. Certainly on that day, in that mobile home park, some OWLs did what others have not been able to do. And that's a beautiful thing.
I continue to chuckle at the OWL acronym. I have owls all over my house, and I started putting them up shortly after my 50th birthday. hmmmm…
I do believe there is humanity buried inside the heart and soul of all human beings. Some have lost touch with it completely, but MOST of us has access to it in every day simple moments like this one.
In nursing school and hospitals, before the internet the term elderly female patients was LOL. Thanks to LOL = 😂, I guess we are now OWLs. I can live with that. But in general "little old ladies" are still LOL.
Thank you James. They are very lively and alive women…I’m not sure I’m the one bringing them to life…I’m just sharing their stories through words. and you inspire me to keep using my words in precision to do so.
I walk at a park near this mobile home park every morning. These fiercely loving souls are STILL showing up every single morning, and after school, to make sure these children get on and off the bus safely. They meet with the community every Friday to share bread. It’s so heartwarming.
It’s unusual for me to simultaneously feel heartbreak and hope, Teri. Your beautiful rendering of this story of resilience and community offered me a rare opportunity to do just that.
The surge was an overwhelming experience for me. I keep feeling these contradictory emotions all at the same. Once upon a time someone asked me what I thought life was all about and I found myself saying that I wanted to FEEL everything about being human. All the emotions. This surge has produced that for me. I’ve never felt so fully alive and so fully human.

So inspiring Teri. And you really bring these women to life. 😊
