Oh, boy. This brings it all back. I was a mutual aid driver, too, but with 4 and 5-year-olds who tested my very limited Spanish skills. Too old to be a soldier. More like a stand in abuelita who always remembered to bring snacks. ❤️

Oh, Teri. This pieces touched my heart. I suppose as the mom of two (now grown) boys, the gross fascination was achingly familiar yet so strikingly different, which pisses me off. Thank you for giving a shit. Thank you for sharing these stories and showing a beautiful slice of humanity still exists. Sending all the things ✨🫶🏻🧘🏻‍♀️

I was right there in the car with the boys, the arm farts and gross tales. Your writing is so present it draws the reader right in.

Thank you Nancy. That is precisely what I hope happens. The stories we hear in the news and social media tell the facts and devastation of the broad strokes of what happened. I want to give the interior, emotional, and in-the-moment stories so that readers can feel what it was like to be here and in it. Both the good and the bad.
